Rail traffic in Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil section restored

Train services in the busy Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil section that was suspended following the collapse of the retaining wall in the Kuzhithurai-Eranial stations since Friday had been restored.

6723 Chennai Egmore–Thiruvananthapuram Ananthapuri Express safely passed through the affected landslip site at 12.05 noon to Thiruvananthapuram central on Monday. Rail traffic has been restored with “speed restrictions and cautious running’ will continue for some more days, according to the railways.

The Divisional Railway Manager, Rajiv Dutt Sharma and top officials were in the spot when the train passed. Over 12,000 cubic metres of earth had been removed from the landslip site on war-footing by the railways despite the inclement weather and lack of proper access from the road to the area .

Consequent on the restoration of the section for rail traffic the following trains will run on both directions (From Trivandrum and Nagercoil) 6724 Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Egmore Ananthapuri Express, 6525 Bangalore– Kanniyakumari Express, 2998 Hapa- Tirunelveli Express, 6127 Chennai Egmore- Guruvayur Express.

The popular passenger trains 0375 Thiruvananthapuram – Nagercoil passenger, 0364 Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram passenger, 0373 Thiruvananthapuram – Nagercoil passenger, 0376 Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram passenger and 0728 Kollam – Madurai passenger had been restored with effect from Monday.
