Race hots up at arts fete

Koyilandy sub-district is leading in the high school section at the end of the third day on Tuesday at the 51st Revenue District School Arts Festival being held in the city.

Kozhikode city was leading in the upper primary section with 73 points and Chevayur in the higher secondary section with 173 points.

Fourteen events were completed in the upper primary section, 38 events in the high school section and 49 in the higher secondary section.

In the Sanskrit fete under way on three stages at Zamorin's Higher Secondary School, Meladi sub-district was leading in the upper primary section with 43 points when 10 of the 18 events were completed. In the high school section, Perambra sub-district was leading with 49 points when 10 of the 19 events were completed.

In the Arabic fete under way on two stages at BEM Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode city sub-district was leading with 18 points when four of the 13 events were completed. In the high school section too, the city sub-district was leading with 27 points when seven of the 19 events were completed.

Ottanthullal, folk dance, Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kathakali and Oppana were among the major competitions held on Tuesday.

The main venue at St. Joseph's Boys' Higher Secondary School hosted Parichamuttu Kali and Margam Kali competitions in all the categories, while St. Joseph's Anglo-Indian Girls' Higher Secondary School hosted Nadodi Nrutham (folk dance) and St. Angela's AUPS hosted Ottanthullal.

Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam competitions were held at Sri Gujarati School, while Kathakali competitions were held at the Gandhi Griham auditorium. The single team that reported for the Kathakali group event had an easy entry into the State arts festival. However, they had to perform without costumes to earn their grades.

Oppana competitions were held at Town Hall while Duffmuttu and Arabanamuttu competitions were held at Himayathul Islam Higher Secondary School.

High-profile competitions, including group dance, Kuchipudi, Kerala natanam, light music and group song, will be held at various venues on Wednesday. The festival will conclude on Thursday.
