No change in UDF stance on Endosulfan: Chandy

April 21, 2011 08:27 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 02:54 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

The United Democratic Front's (UDF) stance on Endosulfan will not change in the wake of the Union Agriculture Ministry deciding against imposing a ban on the pesticide, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has said.

The UDF, while in power, had asked the Centre to impose a complete ban on the pesticide. The Centre had agreed for a State-wide ban. That ban was in vogue and the UDF's stance that the pesticide had to be banned remained unchanged, he said while talking to reporters here on Thursday.

UDF representatives would be part of an all-party delegation that would head to New Delhi shortly to exert pressure on the Centre to consider supporting a global ban on Endosulfan at the forthcoming Stockholm Convention, he said.
