Congress leader K. Muraleedharan on Monday threatened to launch an indefinite hunger stir from Thursday if the authorities failed to settle the ongoing students’ agitation demanding the resignation of Kerala Law Academy Law College Principal P. Lakshmi Nair.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Muraleedharan wanted the Principal to submit her resignation. He also wanted the police to arrest her in connection with a petition filed by students against her.
He said the BJP was trying to convert the Vattiyurkavu constituency into an arena of agitations. As the representative of the constituency, he could not remain a mere spectator to this, he said.
In reply to a question, he said there were many leaders in the party who firmly believed that the BJP should be strongly opposed.
Mr. Muraleedharan made his announcement moments after KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran said the party would extend its full support to the students agitation, but stopped short of stating that the party leadership would take over the student agitation.
Senior BJP leaders have been making their appearance before the academy almost every day and this has been worrying the Congress. Mr. Muraleedharan has thrown his full weight behind the striking students, keeping constant touch with them on a daily basis.
