The housing scheme under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Project in the Alappuzha Assembly constituency will have 336 more houses, after it came to light that several deserving people on the coast were not allowed the houses in the first phase of the scheme.

A.A. Shukoor, MLA, who had taken out a door-to-door survey in the coastal area falling under his constituency after receiving complaints from the public, had found that many of the people, including fishermen, though they were living within 10 metres from the High-tide Line and therefore eligible for the houses, were not included in the first list.

Mr. Shukoor, who took up the issue with the Government and in the Assembly later, informed here that the Government had allowed 336 more houses after scrutiny of the documents and complaints submitted by the legislator.

The additionally approved tsunami houses will comprise 213 houses in the Vadackal Beach and ESI wards, apart from 123 houses in the Sea View, Kanjiramchira, Mangalam and Thumboli wards, he said.
