Minister: land for Munnar township to be acquired soon

Special revenue and other offices inaugurated

Steps to reclaim the land for setting up the Munnar township will start immediately, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has said.

Inaugurating a special revenue office and six special offices in Munnar on Monday, the Minister said 1,026 acres would be acquired for setting up the township which would have a hospital, school, public market and other utility services. This would raise the status of Munnar as a tourist destination that would provide all quality services to its visitors. Munnar would become a model township meeting the basic needs of the people residing there, he said.

The special revenue office would function under the sub-collector and the special offices would complete the task of correcting the anomalies related to the land in the Kanan Devan Hills village in a time-bound manner. The staff to the new offices were deployed through deputation and transfer from other districts.

The Minister said the process to renew the lease amount of the cardamom hills reserves was nearing completion. He said the government would find solution to all the land-related issues in the district and the formation of the special offices was the first creative step in that direction. The special offices with well-equipped staff would be able to finish the work in time and it would benefit both the residents and visitors of Munnar, he added.

S. Rajendran, MLA, presided over the function. District panchayat president Latha Rajaji and District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh were present.
