A lower primary school near Kondotty was closed down on Tuesday amidst protests by local people.

The AMLP school at Mangattumuri, Pulikkal, witnessed dramatic scenes as officials of the Education Department, aided by the police, closed the school early in the morning.

The officials entered the school around 6 a.m. by breaking open the lock. They collected all available documents and locked down the school before the local people raised a banner of protest. Officials said they did not get the complete set of files from the school. The police arrested and removed a group of SFI activists who broke the cordon and entered the school premises in protest.

Order pasted on classes

The officials closed down the school by pasting the High Court order in all classrooms by 8 a.m.

Two earlier attempts by the officials to close down the school were thwarted by the local people. The court had ordered closure of the school after its manager requested closure saying that managing the institution was not feasible.

Tension prevailed in the area with a large number of police personnel and angry local people heading for a face-off. The teachers of the school showed readiness to hold classes.
