Life-saving training class for houseboat employees

The All Kerala Houseboat Owners’ Association organised a life-saving training class for the employees of all the houseboats and resorts here on Wednesday.

The training class, organised in association with the Kochi-based Tourism Professional Club and the Houseboat & Resort Workers Union (HRWU) at the Tourist Amenity Centre near the Punnamada Finishing

Point, was inaugurated by A.A. Shukoor, MLA.

The training, according to the Association general secretary Rajan Peter Arouje, would be a continuing affair, with the employees to be trained in general etiquette, dealing with tourists, handling fire accidents and so on in the coming days. Wednesday’s sessions were focused on administering first aid in case of drowning accidents or similar untoward incidents. The association was also planning to hand over certificates recognised by the District Tourism Promotion Council to those who completed the training. The Association would soon hold talks with the DTPC for this purpose, he added.

Association president V.C. Zachariah, HRWU joint secretary M.C. Manoj and others were present. Doctors from the Ernakulam Medical Trust hospital handled the classes.
