Mr. Raveendran’s documentary on gender sensitivity, of destitute Muslim women who were abandoned after years of marriage with men of unknown origin, was selected for the award instituted by United Nations Fund for Population Activities and Laadli Media Institute.

The documentary portrays the plight of such abandoned women, now working as daily wage labourers in tea estates in Wayanad district of Kerala. There had not been any study so far on the plight of these women, numbering around 2,000.

The award would be presented to Mr. Raveendran at a function to be held in Hyderabad on December 17. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and prominent personalities who contributed for the rights of women and girl children would be present on the occasion, a press release here said.
