LDF wins nine seats in LSG bypolls

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won nine out of the 15 local body wards where by-elections held on Wednesday.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) won two wards, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) three and the Kerala Congress (M) one seat each. The following are the wards won by the LDF with district, ward, candidates and their margin:

Thiruvananthapuram: Karakulam grama panchayat, Kachani, Vikas D., 585 votes.

Alappuzha: Purakkad grama panchayat, Anandeswaram, Nija Anil Kumar, 223 votes; Kainakary grama panchayat, Cherukalikayal, Anita Prasad, 533.

Palakkad: Mangara grama panchayat, Mangara R.S., Shibu P.K., 31.

Kozhikode: Thiruvambady grama panchayat, Mariyapuram, Ramla Cholakkal, 424.

Kannur: Kannapuram grama panchayat, Mottamal, U. Mohanan, 462; Cherupuzha grama panchayat, Rajagiri, Lali Thomas, 9; Pinarayi grama panchayat, Padannakara, N.V.Ramesan, 999.

Kasaragod: Meencha grama panchayat, Majibayal, P. Santha Rama Shetty, 133.

Seats bagged by the BJP Kollam Corporation, Thevally, Shylaja B.,400; Pathanamthitta: Ranni Pazhavangady grama panchayat, Kannakara, Thankappan Pillai, 35; Ernakulam: Koovappady grama panchayat, Koovappady South, Haridas Narayanan, 70.

The seats won by the UDF are Palakkad: Kottapadam grama panchayat, Ambazakkad, Gafoor Kelakathil, 48; and Thengara grama panchayat, Panchakadu, Usha C., 18.

The lone seat won by KC(M) was in Kottayam: Mutholi grama panchayt, Thekkumury ward, P.R. Sasi, 71.
