LDF on campaign mode in Alappuzha

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is already on the campaign mode in Alappuzha, with its candidate for the November 7 by-poll, the Communist Party of India’s G. Krishnaprasad hitting the streets for votes even before rival parties have announced their candidates.

Mr. Krishnaprasad, whose candidature was announced at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, had begun his campaign on Saturday itself, by meeting close friends, party colleagues and leaders in the district headquarters. On Sunday, he began from Kaichoondimukku, met the CPI district secretary A. Shivarajan at the latter’s residence and then moved onto Alissery, Kalarcode, Kuthirapanthi and Thathampally among other areas. Meeting the general public on the road, exchanging pleasantries and asking them to ensure that they cast their votes in his favour, Mr. Krishnaprasad spent the entire day campaigning in the south of the municipal area.

On Monday, he is scheduled to tour the Mullakal area in the centre of the town. The official campaign, will however, begin only on Tuesday after Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan inaugurates the LDF constituency convention at 4 p.m. at the Municipal Grounds here.

CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan, Ministers T.M. Thomas Isaac and G. Sudhakaran, Kerala Congress leader and former minister Mons Joseph, Janata Dal leader and former Minister Mathew T. Thomas, CPI (M) leader P.K. Chandranandan, CPI (M) district secretary C.B. Chandrababu, CPI State Secretariat member T. Purushottaman, CPI Central Committee member Pannian Raveendran and others will be present.
