District Kudumbasree Mission has launched a total sanitation drive in the district on Sunday.

As many as 1,24,000 Kudumbasree Mission members and 30,000-strong children attached to Kudumbasree Baala Sabha took part in the day-long mosquito source reduction and sanitation programme held in different parts of the district, said Mission district co-ordinator, G.Murukan.

According to him, the cleaning programme was successfully organised in all the 54 grama panchayats and the three municipalities of Pathanamthitta, Adoor and Thiruvalla.

Mr Murukan said the programme was held with active participation of the local residents in various panchayat-municipal wards.

He said the Mission workers have destroyed major mosquito-breeding sources like coconut shells, disposable cups, unused tyres, broken buckets, mugs, bags, etc, littered in the residential premises as well as public places as part of the vector-control drive.
