Unidentified miscreants attacked the house of Revolutionary Socialist Party’s Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran here on Saturday morning. Glass panes of two drawing room windows were found shattered and a huge stone was lying nearby, the police said.
Posters threatening him were also pasted on the compound wall of the house. There was no one at the house as Mr. Premachandran and his kin were in Delhi.
A newspaper boy who went to the house early in the morning informed Mr. Premachandran of the incident over the phone. police team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Lalji and forensic experts inspected the scene. The posters have contents that give the attack a political angle.
One poster condemns Mr. Premachandran for praising AICC president Sonia Gandhi in his address in the Lok Sabha on Friday as the person who took the initiative to install the first woman Speaker of the House.
RSP State secretary A.A. Azeez and Labour Minister Shibu Baby John went to the house in the morning. Though they did not name any party, they suspected political adversaries could be behind the incident.
Mr. John said political enmity could be inferred from the scene of the attack. “Mr. Premachandran has been termed as a betrayer in the posters and condemned for praising Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
No role: CPI(M)Speaking to the media in Delhi, CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said his party had no role in the attack on Mr. Premachandran’s house. Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan called for a comprehensive probe into the incident.
