Chairman of Kerala Congress and Public Works Minister P. J. Joseph will not attend the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday as his party is making moves to quit the Left Democratic Front and merge with the Kerala Congress (Mani).

Kerala Congress (Mani) is part of the Opposition United Democratic Front. Mr. Joseph announced in Thodupuzha this morning that the party State Committee would decide on quitting ruling Front on Friday. He did not attend the Cabinet meeting because of poor health.

However, differences have surfaced in the party over the move of the Chairman and his supporters to leave the ruling Front. Party Secretary General P. C. Thomas and his supporters want to remain in the LDF. If the party decides to merge with the Kerala Congress (Mani), Mr. Joseph may resign from the Ministry on Saturday and the merger would take place in June.
