The Kerala Agricultural University has launched a Mobile Agro-Machinery Training Unit (MAMTU). KAU Vice-Chancellor K.R. Viswambharan flagged off the unit at a function at Mannuthy, near here, on Wednesday.
MAMTU's first destination is Erode in Tamil Nadu, and there it will train selected farmers.
Addressing the function, Mr. Viswambaran said KAU would draw up an action plan for implementing various Central and State food security schemes.
The Food Security Army Training Unit at KAU's Agricultural Research Station at Mannuthy has trained about 1,000 people in agricultural operations.
“An invitation to train farmers in Tamil Nadu indicates the success of the training programme. KAU's help has been sought to train farmers in Karnataka too. A delegation from Karnataka will visit KAU on July 23 and hold talks in this connection,” Mr. Viswambharan said.
MAMTU, led by U. Jayakumaran, Professor of Agronomy, will camp for 15 days at Erode, the first of 100 agro-machinery service centres being established by the Tamil Nadu government.
