Hartal forces Idukki to to shut down in full

November 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - IDUKKI:

The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was total in the district and free of any major incidents.

However, tension prevailed at Chempalam, near Nedumkandam, when the hartal supporters blocked a van and those inside it questioned the stir leading to minor clashes.

Police registered two cases against two people and two occupants in the van.

Though private buses and KSRTC kept off the roads, private vehicles were seen on the roads.

In the tourist town of Munnar and Kumily, tourists mostly kept indoor. Travellers who reached from Tamil Nadu were stranded at Kumily.

Sabarimala

However, vehicles to Sabarimala moved without any hindrance. The attendences in government offices were thin. Vehicles carrying workers from Tamil Nadu to the cardamom plantations did not turn up and shops and business establishments remained closed on the hartal day.
