The Kerala government will implement an intensive drive for the prevention of the spread of Malaria, Dengue Fever, Chikungunea, and leptospirosis in the State, Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy announced here on Tuesday.
The year-long ‘Four Plus’ drive will focus on monitoring of the diseases and vectors, preventive measures with public participation, advocacy for change in the life style of people and review and evaluation of work done at different levels.
The Minister said the drive would be undertaken jointly by the departments of Health, Local Self Government, Social Welfare, Education, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Water Resources and Public Works and the Kerala Cleanliness Mission and the Kudumbasree Mission.
A meeting of the heads of the departments had taken the necessary decisions in this regard at a conference here on Tuesday, after the discussion of a draft plan prepared by the State Disease Control and Monitoring Cell.
Ms. Sreemathy recalled that the people of the State had been in misery for a few years now on account of the spread of contagious diseases. Though the government had carried out various measures to contain them, more intensive preventive measures were called for.
