Elephant attack

Woman killed

July 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Palakkad:

A 58-year-old woman was gored to death by a wild elephant at Aanamooli, under the Mannarkkad Forest Division here, around 6 a.m. on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as O. Shobhana, a labourer. Shobhana used to sleep at a house in the neighbourhood for the past few months due to threat from elephant herds, which engaged in crop raiding and destroying houses in the region. She was returning to her hut in the morning when the incident occurred. The tusker that killed her was part of a six-member herd. The body was taken later to Palakkad district hospital for post-mortem examination. — Special Correspondent
