Doctors reassured ontransfer complaints

June 03, 2010 08:13 pm | Updated 08:13 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy said here on Thursday that genuine complaints about transfer of doctors in the Health Services would be redressed.

The Minister told journalists that transfers were inevitable following creation of speciality cadre and promotion of doctors. However, remedial action would be taken if seniority had been overlooked in postings. Ms. Sreemathy said that the doctors had been directed to join duty on the next day upon receipt of transfer orders. Action would be taken against those failing to do so. Many of the transferred doctors were working in the same district for long.

She said that the services would not be affected if some transferred doctors went on leave. There were enough doctors in the service now, and a batch of doctors who had taken leave for postgraduate studies were slated return in a week or two. Specialist posts falling vacant following promotions would be filled through interviews by the Public Service Commission.
