The Joint Action Council of Doctors for Hospital-Patient Protection Law will hold agitations across the State in protest against the failure on the part of the government to pass the Hospital-Patient Protection Law.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday, Sreekumar Vasudevan, chairman, Joint Action Council, said though the law had been implemented in 11 States, including West Bengal, it was yet to be approved by the State government. “We have knocked on several doors, only to be given false promises. We are left with no option but to agitate,” he said.
Dr. Vasudevan alleged that detailed investigations were seldom done in most cases of violence in hospitals. As a result, the guilty escaped scot-free in most cases, he said.
As part of the protest, a rally that began from Kasaragod on June 17 will reach Thiruvananthapuram on June 23. A relay hunger strike will be observed in front of the Secretariat from June 24 to June 29. June 30 will be observed as Hospital-Patient Protection Day during when . there will be a State-wide boycott of all departments in public and private medical colleges with the exception of emergency wards.
J. Rajagopalan Nair, convener, Joint Action Council, and Dominic Mathew Palett attended the press meet.
