The Asia-Pacific Forest Invasive Species Network (APFISN) of the Food and Agriculture Organisation based at the Kerala Forest Research Institute here has asked the public to report Giant African Snail infestation.
The public may pass on information about the infestation to 0487-2690390.
“The information will help manage the alien invasive species. The APFISN is standardising methods to slow down spread of snails. The African snails have been seen in a few parts of the State. It is now invading new locales. A native of East Africa, the Giant African Snail can feed on about 500 crops and cause health hazard to human beings by acting as a vector,” the APFISN said.
The APFISN warned against human consumption of African snail.
