The present probes by investigation agencies other than State Police are expected to go deep into the terror network in the State. While the National Investigation Agency has started probing on the twin blasts at Kozhikode, the Bangalore City Police are now tracing Thadiyentavide Nazir's connections in the State.
Top intelligence officials pointed out that the present inquiry would end up tracing the origins of the terror culture in the State. The investigators are keeping options open for looking into the activities of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and Islamic Seva Sangham (ISS), both proscribed for seditious activities.
Arrest of Nazir has thus proved to be a turning point in the State's fight against terrorism. This has now provided reason for investigators to dig up old cases.
The Bangalore City Police is collecting the final details related to the operations of Nazir and his contacts in the State, which he used to plan and execute seditious activities in various parts of the country.
At the same time, the special team probing into the Kalamassery bus burning case is learnt to be possessing vital information to link Abdul Nasir Maudhani to the case. His wife Soofiya Maudhani has already been named as the tenth accused in the case, on charges of conspiring for burning the bus belonging to Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation in 2005. The action, which was led by Nazir, was made in protest against Maudhani's detention at Coimbatore Central Prison.
While the team of State Police that looked into the case then got digital information connecting Maudhani and Soofiya to the case, no proper follow-up was made. The present inquiry went ahead and is learnt to have secured enough evidence.
The State Police are looking forward to getting decisive evidences once they get Nazir into custody for interrogation. He is expected to be handed over to the State Police by the end of this month.
The Kerala High Court will consider the bail application petition moved by Soofiya Maudhani on Monday. Further actions, including arrest of Soofiya, are expected only after that.
Sources in State Police said that the terror network in the State could be dealt a huge blow, as fresh recruitments to fundamentalist ideologies could be arrested now.
