Democratic Youth Federation of India has organised a signature campaign in Pathanamthitta town on Monday forenoon to press the Union Government for adopting a stand favour of a gobal ban on
Endosulfan at the conference of the parties of the Stockholm Convention to be held in Geneva.
Inaugurating the campaign, Prof Suja Susan George, Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sanghom State vice-president, has alleged that the Union Government has been adopting lobby towards the demand from various quarters for a total ban on the killer pesticide, Endosulfanin.
She said the negative attitude of the Union Government towards the genuine needs of the people was condemnable. She alleged that the Union Government’s indifferent attitude towards the call for a ban on Endosulfan was a clear testimony to its social irresponsibility, succumbing to the pressure from the corporate lobby.
Prof George said a mass movement is needed to correct the lackadaisical approach of the Government and the people of Kerala would fight tooth and nail for a total ban on Endosulfan.
Mr M.S.Rajendran, DYFI district treasurer, presided. Mr N.Sajikumar, DYFI State vice-president, K.Ananthagopan, CPI(M) district secretary, P.J.Ajyakumar, CITU district president and Khan Shahjahan, social activist, also spoke.
