Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said on Monday that community villages would be developed in all districts for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The Minister was replying to the debate on the demands for grants for Land Revenue, District Administration and Miscellaneous and Relief on Account of Natural Calamities in the Assembly.
Mr. Rajendran said the villages were planned as part of various housing schemes being implemented for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The villages would have all the basic amenities besides housing. The first village would come up in Kasaragod district.
The Minister announced that the government proposed to bring in legislation for a social security scheme covering people affected by land acquisitions.
He said the distribution of titles deeds to all eligible settlers and tribespeople would be completed by the end of this year. Altogether 1.5 lakh titles were being granted. The demand for full transferability of the titles would be discussed with the legal experts and stakeholders. A solution would be worked out.
He said money had been released in advance to District Collectors to deal with calamities during the monsoon. Assistance was being provided to the next of kin of those killed by lightning also though such assistance did not come under Central norms.
He said the government had identified 50 ferries to be replaced with bridges. Work on bridges at 29 crossing points had started.
After the Minister's reply, the House passed the demands for grants in the absence of the Opposition which had boycotted the fag end of the sitting.
