Check rise in vegetable prices: BJP

June 14, 2010 06:42 pm | Updated 07:33 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The State government should take urgent steps to control the prices of vegetables, BJP spokesman George Kurian said in a statement here on Monday.

The traders' lobby and the authorities were colluding to jack up prices. Corruption was involved in such deals and it should be investigated, the party State unit's statement said.

The Managing Director of the State Horticulture Development Corporation had resigned following difference with the corporation Chairman. The Managing Director had alleged that the traders' lobby was behind the price rise, Mr. Kurian said adding that prices had gone up three fold in the past two months.
