Chandy powerless, says Kodiyeri

May 28, 2011 08:06 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 01:07 pm IST - THRISSUR:

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is powerless as the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is calling the shots.

“Portfolio allocation is the task of the Chief Minister. But IUML State president Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal declared the names of some of the Ministers in the Cabinet. This is unconstitutional,” he told reporters here on Saturday. “The trifurcation of the portfolio of local self-government will cause chaos. Even at the Centre, the portfolio of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development is under a single Minister,” he said.

Criticising the move to allow private practice by doctors of government medical colleges, Mr. Kodiyeri said Health Minister Adoor Prakash should reveal the names of people who reportedly met him seeking the facility. The LDF government had banned private practice contending that it would rob doctors of the time for research, he said.
