The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the unanimous decision of the all-party conference on Tuesday to scale down the width of the proposed to development of the National Highways 47 and 17 to 30 metres.

Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan told the media after the Cabinet meeting that an all party-meeting would soon go Delhi at the earliest and meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek scaling down of the proposal.

The Chief Minister said that decisions on what should be done on stretches where land for widening of the highways to 45 metres had already been acquired would be taken, depending on the outcome of the meeting with the Prime Minister.

All-party conference had decided to stop acquisition of land for widening of the highways with service roads, in view of resistance over land acquisition.
