February 11, 2010 09:38 pm | Updated 09:38 pm IST - Palakkad

Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy has said that the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) is breaking the law in the State for achieving their narrow political interest in the name of land grab agitation in Wayanad.

Talking to the media here on Thursday, he said that nobody is against taking back the encroached government land. But this should not be done by breaking the law of land with political motives.

He said that a situation cannot be allowed where the people should take their land ownership documents to the CPI(M) to get their approval.

He said that the leaders of the United Democratic Front (UDF) will visit Wayanad on Friday even if there are resistance from any quarters.

He was answering a question on the reported move of the Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Union (KSKTU), the agriculture wing of the CPI(M) that encroached into the land owned by Janata Dal (S) leader M.P.

Shreeyam Kumar, M.L.A, to oppose the visit of the UDF leader to Wayanad on Friday.

Mr. Chandy said that the request of the former CPI(M) M.P from Ottapalam S. Sivaraman to join the Congress will be discussed by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

He said that there was no such application from the former CPI(M) M.P from Alappuzha K.S. Manoj. If there is one the Congress will consider it, Mr. Chandy said.

On the controversial Athirapally hydel project he said that the stand of the Congress is that the project should be implemented and permission for it should be given for it.
