CPI(M) meet to discuss polls, party issues

January 04, 2017 09:36 pm | Updated 09:36 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The upcoming Assembly elections and organisational issues will have prominence in the deliberations of the CPI(M) Polit Bureau (PB) and central committee, which begin their meetings here on Thursday.

The CPI(M) and other Left parties do not have any major role to play in the Assembly elections, but given the crucial issues such as demonetisation and increasing assault on the nation’s secular foundations that would be at the core of the poll battle in Uttar Pradesh and other key States, the CPI(M) would try to use this as an opportunity to put across the Left’s position on these issues.

Of greater interest for CPI(M) watchers in the State would be the stand that the PB and the central committee would collectively take on the CPI(M) State leadership’s complaints against former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and his counter arguments.

The circumstances that led to central committee member E.P. Jayarajan’s exit from the Pinarayi Vijayan Cabinet and the demand for removing Power Minister M.M. Mani could also figure in the discussions.
