Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that there is a deliberate attempt to tarnish Left leaders and pro-Left cultural leaders with the help of a section of the media.

Inagurating a public reception to social and literary critic Sukumar Azhikode organised jointly by the Purogamana Kala Sahithya Sangham, Patyam Gopalan Memorial Research Centre and Sangha Chethana here on Saturday, Mr. Vijayan said that Dr. Azhikode was among those who were not prepared to be scared by the media. He said that there were collective attempts with the backing a section of the media to cast

aspersion on the Left leaders and cultural figures who supported the Left on various issues. Alleging that there was an attempt by the global finance capital and the imperialist forces to carry out their agenda in the State through the media, he said that a section of the media was often serving as a tool in the hands of these forces to attack the Left leaders.

The CPI(M) leader warned against a tendency in the State to promote apolitical organisations as movements with political mission and advocates of ultra-revolutionary ideas were projected as real

revolutionaries.
