BJP releases pro-poor manifesto

The Assembly election manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party, released by its national spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy here on Monday, promises welfare measures for poorer sections of the people and 10 per cent reservation for the poor among the forward classes.

The manifesto says the party will bring legislation to check organised crime and terrorism in the State and seek support of the Centre for the measure. Gujarat will be made a model on the development front. State government employees will be granted pay parity with Central government employees. Job security of employees of unaided educational institutions will be ensured.

The BJP will take the lead for development of Sabarimala and various railway projects, including the Sabari rail project. Administration of temples will be entrusted to believers and the Centre will be pressed to declare Sabarimala and Guruvayur temples as national pilgrimage centres.

Metro rail

The party, the manifesto says, will work for realisation of metro rail projects in the three major cities of the State. The procurement price of paddy will be increased from Rs.14 to Rs.16 a kg. Homes will be provided to all the homeless. Injustice to the tribal people under successive governments will be ended and law for restoration of their land will be implemented.

The manifesto promises comprehensive youth and educational policies, e-learning project, remedial coaching for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students, noon-meal scheme up to the secondary level under modern management system and formation of a Malayalam university. Steps will be taken for establishment of an Indian Institute of Medical Sciences and realisation of the demand for an Indian Institute of Technology. Medical colleges or similar institutions will be set up in Wayanad, Idukki and Kasaragod districts.

Welfare funds

It proposes formation of banks for welfare of workers and backward classes, welfare funds for domestic workers and persons working in quarries and cracker units, and welfare programmes for Viswakarma, Kudumbi and Dheevara communities. Memorials and study centres will be established in the name of those who had worked for the uplift of the downtrodden such as Ayyankali, Sreekumara Guru, Subhananda Guru, Pandit Karuppan and Vaikunta Swamigal.

The manifesto also moots the formation of corporations for development of non-resident Keralites and forward classes and new departments for development of women and backward classes.
