Police have arrested five persons from Ranni on Saturday in connection with the attack on the Circle Inspector of Ranni, K.A.Vidyadharan, by a group of miscreants who were engaged in New Year revelry at Blockpady near Rani town in the wee hours of Friday.
According to police, the five arrested are Binu, 39, Manu, 22, Mammen alias Kurien, 30, Tintu Chandy alias Shaji, 20, Jennette James, 30, all from Ranni-Vaikom. All the accused have been remanded to Pathanamthitta Sub-Jail, later, in the afternoon.
The police said another accused, Dayal, 22, from Ranni-Vaikom, was absconding and a search was on to nab him.
CI’s condition critical
District Superintendent of Police, K.Sanjaykumar, said the condition of the CI who has been admitted to the Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital in Thiruvalla with a serious skull fracture and severe bleeding continues to be critical.
The incident occurred while the police party led by the CI tried to disperse a group of revellers causing disturbance to the local residents at Ranni Blockpady around 1.30 am on Friday. The CI was hit on his head with a stone from the back.
