Achuthanandan slams Jairam

April 23, 2011 01:33 am | Updated November 17, 2021 02:54 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Friday that the posturing of Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jayaram Ramesh as one concerned about environment was nothing but hypocrisy.

Responding to Mr. Ramesh's statement that Endosulfan could be banned only if it was proved to have adverse health effects across the country, the Chief Minister asked whether the Union Minister's own State of Karnataka was not facing problems from Endosulfan and had demanded a ban.

“It is devilish to say that further proof was required. He is bringing ridicule to his seat though his self-deceit.”

Mr. Achuthanandan said that Mr. Ramesh often described himself as a person interested in protection of environment. However, his stand on Endosulfan exposed him. It had also become clear that the position against ban on Endosulfan was not that of the Agriculture Ministry alone but that of the UPA government.
