As many as 84.33% of the students who sat for the Plus Two (higher secondary) examinations this year have become eligible for higher studies. The pass percentage is 0.58 percentage point higher than last year’s (83.75).
The results of the higher secondary and vocational higher secondary examinations were declared by General Education Secretary A. Shajahan here on Wednesday.
A total of 3,69,238 students appeared for the examinations in the regular category, of which 3,11,375 became eligible for higher studies. The number of students who secured A+ grade in all subjects was 14,244 (10,637 girls and 3,607 boys). The number was 14,735 last year.
The number of students who got full marks (1200/1,200) was 183, three more than last year’s.
Girls outshine boys
Girls outperformed boys this year too. Of the 1,95,577 girls who wrote the examinations, 1,78,264 qualified (91.15%), while of the 1,75,159 boys, only 1,34,174 qualified (76.6%). The pass percentage for girls and boys last year was 90.31 and 76.19, respectively.
In the regular school-going category, though aided schools performed better, government schools improved their performance from last year. As many as 1,29,118 students in government schools qualified, a pass percentage of 83.04, up from 82.18 last year. In the aided sector, 1,61,751 students qualified (86.36%), and in the unaided sector, 20,289 qualified (77.34%).
As many as 79 schools registered 100% results – 12 government schools (eight in 2018), 25 aided schools (19 in 2018), 34 unaided schools (46), and eight special schools (six last year).
However, the number of schools with pass percentage less than 30 was 27. This, though, was less than 34 schools in 2018.
Of the 58,895 students who took the examination through Scole-Kerala, 25,610 qualified (43.48%).
Grace marks were given through a software developed by the NIC to 78,899 students.
Mr. Shajahan said the government made special interventions to improve the academic performance of 14 schools. Of these, 12 schools had shown a significant increase in pass percentage.
The SAY/Improvement examinations will be held from June 10 to 17.
The results of the first year higher secondary examinations will be announced before May 31. The first year improvement examinations will be held in July.
