6,000 applications for mass contact programme

November 16, 2011 11:28 am | Updated 11:28 am IST - KASARAGOD:

Over 6,000 applications have been received for Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's mass contact programme scheduled in the district on December 2.

The collectorate and taluk offices in Kasaragod and Kanhangad witnessed a heavy rush of people to submit the applications on the last day on Tuesday. People were seen reaching the venues as early as 8 a.m.

Their grievances include those related to title deeds, land, houses, employment, financial assistance for medical treatment, road network, and power and water connections. There are applications from endosulfan victims dotted in 11 panchayat limits in the district, where the now banned pesticide had been aerially sprayed for nearly two decades.

The authorities concerned are examining the pleas in detail, an official release said adding that a final decision on the grievances would be taken by the Chief Minister at the programme.
