5,000 for poll duty in Wayanad

575 polling booths to be set up in the district

Close to 5,000 officials, including 3,750 booth-level officials, will be deployed for the Lok Sabha election in Wayanad district.

The officials are selected from as many as 15,000 employees in various government departments. Their training would be completed by the first week of April, sources said.

Details of employees who have been designated for election duties were being entered into the server of the election commission, sources added .

As many as 575 polling booths would be set up in the Wayanad constituency. A company of Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Kerala police jointly took out a route march at Mananthavady on Wednesday in view of the security arrangements for the general election.

More Central forces would be deployed in the district in the coming days to ensure peaceful polling, Wayanad District Police Chief R. Karuppasamy said.
