327 flood-affected houses rebuilt

₹63.25 cr. given to affected families

The government has reconstructed 327 houses destroyed in the deluge of August last and work on another 288 houses was progressing in different parts of the district under the Rebuild Kerala project, according to an official statement.

As many as 18,372 houses were damaged in the floods and the affected families were provided with financial relief. A total of ₹63.25 crore has been given to the flood-hit families for reconstruction work and 51,808 affected persons were given financial relief worth ₹10,000. A sum of ₹51.8 has already been disbursed among them.

Cleaning work

As many as 61,390 flood-hit houses and 38,547 wells have been cleaned so far, according to the statement.

The statement says sanitation workers have disposed of 72,297 carcasses of cattle, birds and other animals killed in the flood.

The district administration has opened 543 flood-relief camps during the floods and 1,33,074 people belonging 35,539 families camped at these camps.

Crop destruction

The deluge has destroyed crop in 2,836.8 ha of land in the district and 11,133 affected farmers were provided with financial relief.

Forest Minister K. Raju will hand over the keys of houses constructed under the Care Home programme of the State government to the beneficiaries at a function to be held at Thiruvalla on Saturday.

Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, will preside and Anto Antony, MP, will be the guest of honour. District Collector P.B. Noohu will present a comprehensive report on the flood-relief activities.

Raju Abraham, Chittayam Gopakumar, and Veena George, MLAs, and Annapoornadevi, district panchayat president, will address the meeting.
