16 injured as bus, lorry collide near Karungapally

In a head on collision between a KSRTC fast passenger bus and a lorry on the National Highway at Lalaji Junction near Karungapally on Tuesday evening, sixteen persons were injured. The driver and cleaner of the lorry, Sijas and Anaz respectively, who sustained serious injuries, have been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Both of them are natives of Palluruthy in Ernakulam.

Three others have been admitted to the Kollam District Hospital. They are Ushakumari, a native of Kadakkal in Kollam district and a couple from Thiruvananthauram, Sureshbabu and Sajitha. Following the accident which took place at about 3 p.m., traffic through the Karungapally course of the highway got held up for more than 45 minutes.

The remaining injured are admitted to the Karungapally Taluk Hospital.

They include the driver of the bus, Mathew and conductor Mohan Kumar, both natives of Poovar in Thiruvananthapuram. The bus was on its way from Ernakulam to Poovar and lorry was on its way to Ernakulam from Kollam.

A crane had to be used to remove both the vehicles from the accident site.

Those passing in vehicles and locals of the area rushed the injured to the Karunagapally hospital.

The Karunagapally police have registered a case.
