Kerala Cabinet holds urgent meeting ahead of session

July 09, 2013 10:16 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:59 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Cabinet met specially on Tuesday morning to discuss the fallout of the disclosure that the Chief Minister had met accused in the solar scam Saritha Nair with one of the complainants Sreedharan Nair.

The disclosure had been made by Mr. Sreedharan Nair who had also made a statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before the First Class Magistrate, Konni.

The Cabinet, which met immediately before the meeting of the Assembly on Tuesday, is understood to have discussed the strategy to deal with the adjournment motion, given notice of by Opposition, seeking discussion on police action against protesters who were demanding resignation of Mr. Chandy last night.. There was also discussion on curtailing the Assembly session in view of the continuing Opposition protests.

The Opposition came to the House with placards demanding resignation of the Chief Minister, but allowed the question hour to proceed. It would be trying to corner the government during zero hour (at 9.30 a.m.) but would be showing restraint to pave way for debate on the motion.

BJP seeks Chandy's resignation

The BJP State president V. Muraleedharan has demanded that the Chief Minister should resign in view of the latest disclosures.

In a statement here, Mr. Muralieedharan said that the Chief Minister had wilfully misled the Assembly and people. The disclosure of Sreedharan Nair, who had complained of fraud, had pointed to involvement of Mr. Chandy in the scam.
