Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday expressed concern over reports of slowdown on the Kartarpur Corridor project, the proposed border corridor between India and Pakistan.
Capt. Singh urged Pakistan not to back down on its commitment as it would hurt sentiments of the Sikh community.
The Chief Minister in a tweet from his official handle said, “Any move to slow down development of the Kartarpur Corridor would hurt sentiments of the Sikh community, who have waited patiently for ‘khulle darshan deedar’ of the place where Guru Nanak Dev ji spent many years. @pid_gov shouldn’t back out from their commitment to this project."
Notably, India has sent a reminder to Pakistan for organising technical-level meetings, which India had proposed to hold during the first week of August. With Pakistan reportedly not having responded to the proposed meeting, India has sent a reminder.
The corridor, on completion, will connect Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan’s Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Gurdaspur district (Punjab). It was in Kartarpur Sahib, now in Pakistan, where Guru Nanak Dev had spent the last 18 years of his life.
