Raichur Rural police have registered a case against five people and arrested three of them in connection with Friday’s accident at Yermarus Thermal Power Station (YTPS) construction site in which two workers were killed.

The police action follows a complaint by Saidur Rahman, one of the two injured in the accident.

Case has been registered against site manager Tophan Subudh, safety officer Syed, senior manager Venugopal, general manager H. Shrinivas and vice-president of the sub-contractor, Power Mech Ltd., Amarnath Reddy under sections 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code.

The first information report mentions “other officers of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.” as accused as BHEL is the main contractor for the work.

The arrested — Tophan Subudh, Syed and Venugopal — were produced before a magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody, Additional Superintendent of Police J. Papaiah said on Saturday.
