Citizens can pay their property tax for the 2012-13 fiscal from April 1. Since the tax rates have not been revised, they can pay it through the SAS (Self Assessment Scheme) at either BangaloreOne, BBMP's help centres or jurisdictional offices of the Assistant Revenue Officer.

A communiqué here on Wednesday said that if the property tax is paid in full before April 30, tax payers can avail themselves of a 5 per cent rebate. Tax can also be paid in two instalments. The last date to pay the first instalment is May 30, while the deadline for the second instalment is November 29. If the tax (full payment or first instalment) is not paid by May 30, a 2 per cent penalty per month will be levied.

Tax payments can be made through cheques, demand drafts, pay orders and even through credit/debit cards, besides making online payments. If the tax (including solid waste management cess) is below Rs. 1,000, payment can be made through cash. The BBMP will issue receipts immediately after the tax (below Rs. 15,000) is being paid through cheques. If tax (above Rs. 15,000) payment is made through cheque, two receipts will be issued — one when payment is made and another when the cheque is realised. The communiqué said that those who own properties in revenue layouts and those who do not have acquisition certificate may pay tax at the respective ARO office till their properties are regularised. Those who have not paid tax since 2008-09 to 2011-12 have been urged to first clear the dues and then pay the tax for 2012-13.

The SAS forms are available at all ARO offices, help centres. Tax can be paid at the ARO office (on working days) between 9 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the communiqué added.
