Yediyurappa announces ₹ 100 crore for infrastructure development in Haveri

The funds will be used for, among others, repairing flood-ravaged roads, bridges and public property

Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Thursday announced ₹ 100 crore grants for the flood-affected Haveri district for taking up infrastructure development works, including repair of flood-ravaged roads, bridges and public property.

Chairing a Haveri district flood relief review meeting at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium here on Thursday, Mr. Yediyurappa directed Deputy Commisioner Krishna Bajpai to immediately take up construction of A and B categories of houses that were damaged during the recent floods and heavy downpour.

Seeking details from the officials on the complaints regarding houses being left out during the survey of damaged houses in the district, the Chief Minister also sought to know whether the first instalment of ₹ 1 lakh had been credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries of A and B category houses. “If the first instalment has already been released, the work on foundation should be taken up immediately. The grant of ₹ 5 lakh would be released in a phased manner,” he said.

Emphasising the need for creating awareness among the people about the additional grant of ₹ 10,000 per hectare to farmers apart from the NDRF guidelines, Mr. Yediyurappa asked the officials to seek information on whether the people were satisfied with the quantum of relief being given to them. He also told them to sensitise farmers on the additional grants being given to them.

Home Minister and district-in-charge Basavaraj Bommai raised the issue of damaged classrooms in several schools and sought additional grants for the repair of damaged roads, bridges and public property.

Giving information on the loss to property and life in the district due to floods and heavy downpour, Mr. Krishna Bajpai said that, in all, seven persons had lost their life in the natural calamity and their families had been given a compensation of ₹ 32 lakh put together. A compensation of ₹ 82.70 lakh had been given to 827 families in the district during October and ₹ 3.52 crore to 3,523 families during the month of August, he said.

A compensation of ₹ 3.03 crores had been given for 3,03l houses completely damaged during August. A compensation of ₹ 34.26 crore had been given for 3,426 houses severely damaged. Another ₹ 51.13 crore had been given to 10,226 houses that had suffered minor damage. While 270 families were getting monthly rent, 82 families had been provided with temporary sheds. In all, ₹ 84.42 crore had been paid towards damaged houses, he said.

Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Ramesh Desai, Joint Director of Agriculture Manjunath briefed the meeting about the damage to public property and crop loss, the amount of compensation paid and further requirement for funds.

Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol, Haveri Zilla Panchayat president S.K. Kariyannavar, MP Shivakumar Udasi, MLAs C.M. Udasi, Nehru Olekar, Virupakshappa Ballari and Regional Commissioner Aditya Amlan Biswas were present.
