Yeddyurappa resigns from Assembly

The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who has been elected to the Lok Sabha from the Shimoga constituency, on Sunday resigned as member of the Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Yeddyurappa was elected to the Assembly from the Shikaripur constituency in Shimoga district last year.

Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa told presspersons here that Mr. Yeddyurappa had submitted his resignation to the membership of the Assembly and his resignation had been accepted. Mr. Yeddyurappa also spoke to him over the telephone about his resignation, the Speaker said.

The former Chief Minister recently wrote to Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi expressing his willingness to work towards strengthening Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka.

Another BJP candidate and former Minister B. Sriramulu, who has been elected to the Lok Sabha from the Bellary constituency, had submitted his resignation to the membership of the Assembly before contesting the election.
