Yeddyurappa launches attack on Congress

January 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Shivamogga:

Shivamogga MP and BJP national vice-president B.S. Yeddyurappa has criticised the functioning of the Congress government in the State.

Alleging that development works in the State came to a standstill after the Congress came to power, he said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, had failed to mobilise resources for the works.

Speaking at a meeting of BJP workers in Sagar town on Thursday, Mr. Yeddyurappa alleged that instead of taking steps to expedite implementation of works, the government was trying to rake up issues that hurt the religious sentiments of people. He said that tabling the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2014 at the last session of the legislature was a misstep. Through the Bill, the State government has tried to control the mutts which had rendered great service in the field of education and health.

The withdrawal of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2010 and Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 2012 had also hurt the religious sentiments of the people, he said.

He added that Revenue officials were issuing eviction notices to bagair hukum farmers and though several Congress leaders had requested the government to stop, no action had been taken.
