The former Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa, has criticised the Congress government in the State for proposing the name of T. Sham Bhat, BDA commissioner, for the post of chairman of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), and the reported statement made by Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya of “protecting” Gonal Bheemappa, the former KPSC chairman.

“Both of them (Mr. Bhat and Mr. Bheemappa) are facing charges of corruption and misuse of power. It is unfortunate that the Congress government is supporting such corrupt persons,” Mr. Yeddyurappa, who is also the president of the BJP State-unit, said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

Interestingly, Mr. Yeddyurappa who himself is facing corruption charges and has served a jail term while he was the Chief Minister, has advised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to appoint “sincere and upright persons to important posts.”

The State BJP chief, who was here to campaign for the party candidates contesting the elections from the Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies, said that several Congress leaders, including Speaker Kagodu Timmappa, had been critical of Mr. Siddaramaiah’s style of functioning.

Giving a clear indication that the BJP has already started to prepare for the 2018 Assembly polls, Mr. Yeddyurappa declared that his party would go alone in the polls by contesting in all the 224 constituencies.

However, he said that the BJP has decided to join hands with any party other than the Congress in the local bodies.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he would visit all the 224 Assembly constituencies in the State from June 11 starting from Bengaluru to prepare the BJP for the 2018 Assembly elections.

It is unfortunate that the State government is supporting such corrupt persons,

says the former CM
