World Senior Citizens’ Day

Students, NGO members and senior citizens participated in a walk organised in Bidar on Thursday morning as part of International Senior Citizens Day.

Early morning, they gathered at the gates of the Barid Shahi memorial garden and began walking, holding posters. A team of folk artistse beat drums in the front. The procession ended in Madiwal Chowk near the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences. They were served tea and biscuits by the district senior citizens’ helpline.

Earlier, Anurag Tewari, Deputy Commissioner, said that the district administration was taking steps to ensure senior citizens got benefits from government welfare schemes. “We have sent a proposal for developing gardens and parks in the city to the Central and State governments. The plans include creating special areas for senior citizens, women and children,” he said.

Sudhir Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Police; Anil Kumar Beldar, convenor, senior citizens’ helpline; S.G. Biradar; and others were present.
