Workshop to mark International Year of Light

Poornaprajna College and the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology will organise a workshop to mark International Year of Light – 2015 here on June 18.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, A.P. Bhat, head of the department of physics, Poornaprajna College, said that the programme would have two sessions. In the morning session, Sharath Ananthamurthy, professor, department of physics, Bangalore University, will deliver a lecture on ‘Light: waves, photons and technologies’ at 10.30 a.m. Vyasa Upadhyaya, professor, department of physics, Manipal Institute of Technology, will speak on ‘New horizon - non linear optics applications’.

Astronomy presentation

In the afternoon session, Madhusudan, senior scientific officer, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bengaluru, will give a presentation on ‘Light and astronomy: a coupled oscillator system’. The programme will be held at the Poornaprajna Auditorium on the college premises, the release added.
