Work on the railway over-bridge (RoB) over the level crossing on Kapileshwar Road commenced on Tuesday.

The road was closed for traffic in presence of a posse of police personnel.

On Monday, officials of the Belgavi City Corporation (BCC) convinced some shopkeepers on the roadside to cooperate so that construction work on the RoB could be taken up. This will help ensure smooth and faster movement of vehicular traffic in the locality.

The over-bridge will be around 500 m long and 25 ft wide. The Police Commissioner and senior officials of the BCC were present to ensure that construction work commenced in a peaceful manner. Earlier, there had been protests by some shopkeepers, who were opposing the construction of the bridge fearing loss of business.
