Woman, sheep killed in lightning strike

A woman and as many as 30 sheep were killed due to lightning in three incidents in Raichur district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Yallamma (35), a resident of Ulumeshwar village in Lingasugur taluk. Another woman, Lingamma (30), who was with Yallamma, sustained injuries.

As per the villagers, they were on the field when lightning struck them.

In another incident at Gorebal village in Sindhanur taluk, 26 sheep, out of 45 in a flock, were killed due to lightning.

The flock belonged to Venkatesh, resident of the same village. In the third incident, at least four sheep were killed at Balaganur in Sindhanur taluk.

Hailstorm and rain were reported from the rural areas of Lingasugur, Raichur and Sindhanur districts.

The roofs of many huts at LBS Nagar in Raichur blew off in the storm.

Temperature falls

Sunday’s pre-monsoon rain brought the temperature in Raichur down.

The midday temperature dropped from 43 degrees Celsius recorded on Sunday to 35 degrees Celsius on Monday.
